A Good Offseason
First, thanks very much to Lauren, Kim, Dale, and Betty Jean for helping with the sags on the Dowdell Knob ride. That ride isn't possible without your help.
And thanks to everyone who led a ride this year.
I hope you all enjoyed the winter training rides as much as I did. Baselayer will start again in Fall 2012. A good racing season lies ahead.

Dowdell Knob
******
Additional notes:
- Bring a sack lunch for Dowdell Knob and put it in one of the sags at the start.
- We will do two store stops in addition to lunch at Dowdell Knob, as shown below. But these will not be typical 20-minute store stops. They will be stop, get a Snickers and a Gatorade, then get back on your bike and roll. Very quick in and out. The only long stop will be lunch on Dowdell.
Bring an extra water bottle or two for the sag - there may not be many water opportunities in the first 60 miles.

Here's the roughly 1400 miles we've done since the fall:
And here's the 143 miles we're doing on Saturday, January 28th, when Stony will lead us to Dowdell Knob and back. We'll have two sag vehicles for support and do a sack lunch on the Knob. The ride will start at Midway Baptist at the intersection of Moseley Road and Lower Thomaston Road at 8am.
A reminder: if you have an iPhone, you can download the Bikemap app and log in as username 'baselayer' and password 'macon'. Click on the Dowdell Knob route. That'll give you your position on the course during the ride.

North with Ronnie
This Saturday, January 21st, we'll follow Ronnie Hill northward 86 miles from Mt. Zion Church through Monticello. Our store stop will be at mile 44 on the clockwise loop shown below. Hwy 11 headed back will provide a good stretch to do rotations, and when we turn right onto Taylor Road the 3-mile uphill attack zone will commence. The finish line will be the stop ahead sign at the end of Taylor Road.

Macon Cycling Classic RR Preview
Five miles from the RR course finish, we'll do a little team attack zone. The distance to the finish is painted in orange from 5 miles out. The finish is the last driveway to Hubbard Elementary school, about 3/4 way up the hill. There's a store on the left on Hwy 83 about 1/2 mile past the RR finish. We'll regroup there and do a store stop (mile 41).
Saturday's total ride will be 79 miles, but to include the MCC course and accommodate riders who'd like to do less mileage, we'll make it a figure eight on familiar roads so you can turn off and cut it short if you'd like. It'll be easy to do a 65-ish mile loop.
We'll have an attack zone starting at the left turn from Shi onto Maynard's Mill at mile 62.5. The AZ finish will be the stop ahead sign for Hwy 74 at mile 65.8.
If you're confused about the direction/sequence, just hold your cursor over the profile and the mileage will pop up on the map.
